Katie Karner, LCPC

Katie Karner is licensed clinical professional counselor. Katie provides counseling services to both adults and adolescents. She completed her Bachelors degree at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a major in psychology. She then went on to complete her Master in Counseling from Governors State University with a focus on clinical mental health. Katie has worked in a variety of settings of the course of her career including community mental health, inpatient, intensive outpatient services, and residential facilities. These experiences have allowed Katie to have a unique perspective on treatment and assists in serving a diverse population.

Katie believes that therapy provides a unique opportunity to better understand yourself and the way things in your life affect you. Katie understands that therapy is a vulnerable process and focuses on collaborating to resolve any difficult emotions like worry, anxiety, and shame that may come up when starting treatment. She believes in a whole-person approach with clients, incorporating compassion, collaboration, and even a bit of humor to help you move through challenging situations and feelings. Katie feels strongly in the importance of finding a clinician you connect with in order to build a trusting, supportive therapeutic relationship. In doing so, Katie strives to make each therapeutic relationship unique, depending on client needs and their personal therapeutic goals.

Katie’s clinical focus is working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, mood disorders, panic, abuse/trauma, grief and loss, relationship issues, and difficulties with self-care. Katie incorporates a variety of modalities including CBT and ACT in order to better help you develop new ways of coping. Katie is committed to providing a supportive environment, and on that challenges you towards growth.
