Dr Jazzmin Villanueva

Jazzmin Villanueva, Psy.D.

Dr. Villanueva knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in mental health and has worked hard to achieve her goals.  She received a B.S. in Liberal Arts & Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-

Champaign where she double majored in Psychology and English.

She was also a member of the Psi Chi National Psychology Honors Society

at UIUC.  She received a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Villanueva continues to expand her clinical knowledge by regularly attending conferences and workshops, and staying current in the latest research and news.  She is a member of the American Psychological

Association and the Illinois Psychological Association.  As a mental health clinician, she strives to be an advocate for diversity across all demographics (e.g. race, culture, sex, gender, etc.) and to continue to speak out against the stigmatization of mental health.

Dr. Villanueva has a gained a diverse range of clinical experiences through her education, training, and practice.  She has worked with clients in settings including hospital-based outpatient programs, residential facilities, medical clinics, emergency rooms, community health departments, high schools, and group practices.  She completed her pre-and post-doctoral training working with clients with eating disorders and body image issues.  She also worked with clients who dealt with a wide range of clinical issues including depression & bipolar disorders, anxiety & panic disorders, psychosis & schizophrenia, substance use, dementia & Alzheimer’s disease, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and issues related to marriage & family dynamics.  She has worked with clients across the lifespan and from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds  Dr. Villanueva is also trained in psychological assessment, which includes intelligence, memory, and personality testing.  Although she specializes in individual therapy, Dr. Villanueva has passion and experience in interpersonal group therapy and psychoeducational groups.

Compassion, mindfulness, and value-based living provide the foundation of Dr. Villanueva’s practice with teens and adults.  She integrates a number of theoretical approaches and techniques, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to facilitate healing and change in her clients.
